Welcome to fourth grade!

 

My name is Katie Oakes, and I am excited to begin my 18th year of teaching. I earned my Bachelor's degree in English from Marymount University and my Master's degree in Gifted Education from the College of William and Mary. 

 

My husband is an English teacher at Richard Montgomery High School where he is also the head coach of the Varsity Girls' Basketball team. We have two children, Mark who is a sixth grader at Hallie Wells and Emily who is a fifth grader here at Wims. We also have two cats, Lucy (who loves to eat ice cream) and Charlotte (who thinks she is a dog) and a one year Black Lab named Pearl.

 

I've wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl when I started practicing my teacher handwriting on the chalkboard in my basement, and my favorite part about teaching is talking about books with kids! When I'm not teaching, you can find me painting, spending time near the water, cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, or shopping at my favorite store: Target. I'm also working on a collection of short stories as I hope to be a published writer one day!
